I mean, really, how difficult is it to do simple every-day tasks when you are, apparently, a capable and at least semi-intelligent human adult? I am living in the third floor of Birch 3A in Bemidji and it boggles my mind how stupid some of these women are. First of all, several of the females here seem to have been unable to grasp how to work a simple footpeddle that would flush the toilets. While this problem seems to have mostly ceased now, it was a disturbing and disgusting welcome whenever you stepped into the bathroom.

The second travesty still has yet to discontinue and that is in the form of overflowing garbage in our kitchen. There is a dumpster not fifteen feet away from the door of our dorm. Yes, it is very cold in Bemidji right now, but it is not so cold that you will instantly loose vital parts of your anatomy if you are outside for sixty seconds. But instead of taking their garbage downstairs like proper adults they try to cram ever more of it into an already overflowing bag. Not only that, but the bags that they DO manage to cram in there are not even sealed, so there is loose garbage spilling out all the time. I finally got so sick of it that I took it downstairs to the dumpster myself. Not that anyone will learn from my example.

The third problem I have with the stupid people apparently populating Birch is the inability to cook a simple meal. The fire alarm has gone off an improbable amount of times due to people burning food in the oven, leaving things that will burn on the stove and burning stuff in the toaster. I can understand not knowing how to cook, but could we at least try not to burn down the dorm on a regular basis? It may not be too cold to freeze off your extremities but it is far too cold to stand outside in pajamas while we wait for security to air out the kitchen.

Anyway, that will be my rant for now. I am just so sick of the unintelligent people that have overpopulated our campus. It makes me weep for the future generations that may spawn from their loins.

Brain Storm

This last episode of SGA was wonderful, but really for only one particular reason. Next week is our Thanksgiving Break and I am very excited to go home, as I live about 230 miles away from my family right now to go to school. The girl who lives in the dorm across from me lives in the city right next to where I grew up so we ususally drive home together because we are only about ten minutes apart.

Well, originally we were going to leave next Tuesday. She asked if I could skip my last class so we could leave right after her last class. Turns out I wasn't even going to have my last class so I said sure, no problem. I then told her that if she wanted, and if she could get out of her calc class on Tuesday, I could skip my Monday and Tuesday classes because I would only be missing three and we could leave Monday morning instead of Tuesday afternoon. She was happy with that and I was super excited to get one extra day with my family. The NEXT day, however, she informs me that if she can get out of her calc class she is going to leave Friday. I said that was a problem because I worked over the weekend and Monday morning, but I said I would try to rearrange my schedule for HER.

I talked to another girl I work with and we shifted schedules as well as we could and I got it so that I didn't work after 4pm on Saturday. I went to the friend who was giving me a ride and I asked her if she could wait until Saturday evening to leave. I figured it wouldn't be a huge deal because I was only asking for 24 hours while I had gone out of my way to rearrange my schedule so we could leave closer to when she wanted to. She flat out told me no, that she was leaving Friday. I asked her again if she was planning to leave Friday and she said she was for sure leaving tomorrow. I asked AGAIN if she could just wait until Saturday and she said no. She wouldn't wait. She was leaving and I was stuck waiting until Tuesday to leave when another friend drove home.

I was so hurt that she is leaving and will get a whole WEEK with her family and I get four days and a couple of hours to squeeze my family in with my work schedule. And I felt very betrayed that she didn't care that I was going out of my way to try and fit her schedule.

Needless to say, I don't really consider her a friend anymore since friends are supposed to compromise and she refused and won't even acknowledge that she is being unfair. I know it sounds petty of me, but I can only hope she has a miserable Thanksgiving.

Long Time No Talk

I know I have been very poor in keeping up this blog. Here's me trying to do a little better. First, it is with sadness that I announce--to the few apparently living under rocks who have not heard it before now--that Stargate Atlantis has been cancelled. It will not pick up a sixth season but instead will end in January. After the last episode it will air a two-hour movie which will eventually find its way to DVD.

I know I will probably regret saying this, but I must say that I am not completely upset that it is ending. Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE SGA. It is probably one of the few things that got me through... jeeze, nearly four years of college. However, this season has felt somewhat forced and I, for one, do not want to see it repeating an SG-1 season 9. *shudder*

Do not think that this means I have lost faith in SGA. But all things must have their time. I will miss SGA, but I shall not mourn its loss if giving it further life only makes it the sickman of sci-fi.

Papers, papers, papers...

I am just protcrastinating again. That is only fair.

When did the year end?

I seem to be a bit behind the times, but that's okay. It's is just as funny as the rest--actually, I think it's even funnier.

And, more good news, the movie has been picked up by MGM! Yay! As David says, Mars now has a really big kitty to play with. The days are growing shorter and the colder, though there is still plenty of sunshine and good weather. Still, it is inevitable that there will soon be snow and ice and sunless mornings and freezing nights. All in all, though, I realize it is not so bad after reading a particular book called The Ice Master. I am still in the process of reading it, but thus far it is extremely good--and "thus far" is about four chapters from the end. The book is about the true story of an arctic expedition on the whaling ship Karluk that was trapped in the ice and then sank far north in the Arctic Sea. It is a wonderful book that leaves you with the knowledge that you can handle a chilly winter in Minnesota when the average winter temperature on the ice was anywhere between negative twenty and negative fifty. Brrrr! 'Tis a cold, cold tale but very good. The Ice Master is by Jennifer Niven and I highly recommend it.

A Dog's Breakfast

Okay, now I'm here to do a shameless plug for David Hewlett's newest movie masterpiece, "A Dog's Breakfast". There is, floating in the ethre and yet to be viewed by us mere mortals, a movie yet in production--post-production, I suppose, or whatever--called "A Dog's Breakfast" starring the wonderful David Hewlett, his lovely sister Kate Hewlett, Stargate Atlantis's Paul McGillion...oh, dear, I'm pretty sure I've spelled that wrong... and of course the loveable, petable, approachable and luckable dog Mars, saved from near death by David and his partner, Jane. So if you like Atlantis, Stargate, puppies or any of the Hewletts--or Paulie--then you should see this movie! Or go to the website. I have it posted here, so no walking for you. And I'll soon be posting the viewable clip on Youtube, so you can see the preview in all it's youtube glory.

Have fun, spread the word, and vive los Hewletts!... or however you would say it.

Ta

Excuse my tardiness

Okay, so I fibbed about posting every other day or whatever. It is a tragic day that we remember and though we must always remember the innocents who died unknowingly and the men and women who bravely fought to save them, we must also be able to move on from here. Whether or not "America is safer" doesn't really matter. It's whether or not we can live our lives freely and confidently that matters. So that is just what I suggest we do: live on with those we lost always in our hearts, if not in our thoughts.

Peace be to those who lived but who have lost.

Now, about this six month hiatus. I had heard, but refused to believe, that this was even possible. But I just learned about it today and all I can say is--I AM GOING TO GO FRAKKING NUTS! No Atlantis or SG-1 for SIX MONTHS??? Okay--no NEW episodes for six months. Still--in the middle of dramatic cliff hangers? I am going to go crazy. Atlantis better come out on DVD damn quick....

Okay, peace be to thee and all that jazz.

Ta

Fan Fiction

I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do with this blog because, unlike David Hewlett, people will not be flocking here to read what I have to say. So while I'm trying to figure it out, I'll use this as a blatant attempt to advertise my fan fiction. :D It's available at McWeir, FanFiction.net and WraithBait. Check out the links on the side and peek at Captain Peregrine. When you're done reading that, check out all the other great fiction. Technically we haven't got there yet, but it's cold and windy and wet so... yeah, it's pretty much fall. Which means the germs are FLYING! My sister's already got a cold--dragging her around the windy Ren. Fest for ten hours probably didn't help, but she had fun. In any case, this means I'll probably be the next one to come down with it, and with work and school that is really going to suck. Yeah, sister's got the same problem, but let's face it--college and high school are two different things. Though it's not like I've been doing any homework, really. I've been in school for about... two, two and a half weeks and so far I've only done English homework. Oh, well. I'm bored, it's cold... there's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Okay, guess that's all for now. My first blog was a forced attempt for English class--yeah, I never understood it, either...--and I never really enjoyed it.
